Andalucía Costa del Sol Match Play 9

The tournament

Andalucía Costa del Sol Match Play 9

The second edition of the Andalucía Costa del Sol Match Play 9 will be held at the stunning Valle Romano Golf in southern Spain from May 17-20.

Following a successful first staging last season, the picturesque coastal town of Estepona will now host the second edition of the innovative event, won last year by England’s Aaron Rai.

The exciting format comprises of 36 holes of stroke play with the top 64 European Challenge Tour players making it through to the weekend – where they will compete in a series of nine-hole match play battles for a €200,000 prize fund.

Valle Romano Golf boasts a phenomenal championship course, with signature holes named after famous Spanish players – hole two is named after José Maria Olazábal, hole five is named after Miguel Ángel Jiménez while hole nine is the ‘Seve Ballesteros hole’.

The Cabell B. Robinson-designed course, which hosted the Second Stage of Qualifying School in 2013, has a challenging parkland layout which measures 6975 yards and is known for its fast greens.

The Andalucía Costa del Sol Match Play 9, the only match play event on the 2018 Challenge Tour schedule, is one of two Spanish tournaments which will take place this season and will be played two weeks after the Challenge de España.

1. On-Course Scorer

Green scorer: One scorer every 3 holes. Once the pros have finished the hole, the volunteer will ask for the last 3 holes results, take note and pass them on to scoring base camp via radio or PDA. Walking scorer: (Saturday and Sunday) following a match and passing results on to base camp.

2. Main Scoreboard

Located on the clubhouse terrace. Volunteers update the scoreboard using results transmitted from the course by the on-course scorers.

Keep scores updated on manual scoreboards at designated holes during play.

4.Base Camp

Coordination of on course scorers and the results to be displayed on main scoreboards, leaderboards and live scoring. Equipment: the volunteer will be provided with a result sheet, radio or PDA to communicate with central.
